Kodomo Keishi Ep 06 Review

While initially showing promise, Kodomo Keishi (コドモ警視) is starting to show the same grinding repetitiveness that Kodomo Keisatsu did. As usual, they start by showing us who the culprit is:

I still don’t understand why they do that, and wish they wouldn’t. Just once, they could skip showing us. Worse, what they show him doing has to be the lamest crime they’ve covered to date – he was drawing long nose hairs on pictures in a textbook.

The initial classroom scene is normal as well.

Making some slashes at Hazama (Marius Yo) with an air-sword, Yumi (Minamino Saki) tells us that the suspect’s father has produced a TV show.

What are two girls – one in a school uniform and one in plainclothes – planning to do to the elementary school that detective Hazama (Marius Yo) attends in Kodomo Keishi (コドモ警視)? Probably something surprising.

There’s nothing surprising about the classroom scene that follow, though. As usual, Yumi (Minamino Saki) has a plan to get Hazama. This time, it’s a contest of some sort, but Hazama rejects the notion as politely as he can manage.

He walks out leaving a disappointed Yumi in his wake. Before he can reflect on this, he hears a shout and finds Takamura (Shaku Yumiko) at the base of the stairs in pain.

Kodomo Keishi (コドモ警視) features Marius Yo-kun playing Hazama Seishiro, a 36 year-old police investigator who was turned into a child by a gas produced by an organization known as “Red Venus”. As a result, even though he continues to work as an investigator at night, he has to attend school during the day. Fortunately, devious students have ensured that his brilliant deductive mind has had more than enough to keep it busy.

This episode starts off with what seems to be a harmless scene, and a girl at Hazama’s school packs what looks like a gift. But there’s something devious about the way she goes about it.

In the regular classroom scene, we find out that it is, in fact, Valentine’s Day (and this aired at roughly the right time to make it topical). Naturally, Yumi (Minamino Saki) once again makes a bid for Hazama’s heart, this time with Valentine chocolates.

But when Hazama opens the box, he finds nothing inside! He tries to escape, but she starts crying, leaving him unable to disengage.

Kodomo Keishi Ep 03 Review

This episode of Kodomo Keishi (コドモ警視) is a bit different. It starts off with one of the teachers encountering something supernatural – or at least something that seems supernatural – while wandering in the school at night.

I’m not sure what he called it when he shouted – either fireball or will-o’-the-wisp. I had a copy with subtitles in Chinese, and they had the kanji for will-o’-the-wisp (鬼火 – onibi) even though I thought I heard “hidama” (火玉 – fireball). I’ll go with will-o’-the-wisp from here on.

Anyway, as he flees, we see a girl’s smile:

Is this just a prank, or something more sinister?

The next day, police superintendent Hazama Seishiro (Marius Yo) – a 36 year-old police investigator who was turned into a child by a gas unleashed by terrorists – is once again approached by Kitabayashi Yumi (Minamino Saki), who clearly has a thing for him.

Kodomo Keishi Ep 02 Review

Kodomo Keishi (コドモ警視) features Marius Yo-kun (マリウス葉) playing Hazama Seishiro, a 36 year-old police investigator who was turned into a child by a gas produced by an organization known as “Red Venus”. This series is a sequel to last spring’s Kodomo Keisatsu, but its first episode seemed superior to that initial offering because it allows Hazama a more natural role – that of child detective. Unlike Kodomo Keisatsu, it is set in the school he is forced to attend by day, not the police station he works at after leaving class.

The episode begins with an unknown student sneaking into an office, bringing in something wrapped up.

Then we turn to Hazama’s classroom . . .

. . . where fellow student Kitabayashi Yumi (Minamino Saki) asks for math help (though she clearly has interest in him beyond a need for tutoring).

The two idiot teachers do their normal schtick of chasing after Takamura Kaori (Shaku Yumiko). They’re not quite as bad as they were in the first episode, though (and certainly not nearly as distasteful as their Kodomo Keisatsu counterparts) – it just looks like competition for Takamura’s affection rather than unnecessary obnoxiousness.
