Gamushara 2014.09.21 Review

The participants in this episode of Gamushara (ガムシャラ) are Miyachika Kaito, Abe Aran, Jesse, Yasui Kentaro, Nakamura Reia, Matsukura Kaito, and Vasayegha Hikaru . . .

. . . and they’re going to be learning the basics of sports sword fighting.

They’re not going to be using real swords, of course, but rather foam cylinders that will allow them to practice with full force without any concern about injury. Actually, when Miyachika-kun slaps Jesse-kun’s arm with one, Jesse still says it hurts.

They approach the location and meet their instructor – Hosokawa-sensei. It’s nice to have Yasui-kun leading things, because he give a very spirited introduction to both the activity and their sensei.

Shounen Club 2013.09.04 Review

For some reason I thought that this Shounen Club (ザ少年倶楽部) was going to be a Kansai edition, but that’s clearly wrong – we’re still in the Kanto region for this month. The show begins with an English introduction from Jesse-kun. I don’t remember hearing him speak so much English at once, and it was good (except the ‘yeah’ at the end came out a bit awkward). Hopefully he’ll get more chance to practice.

The opening performance featured Sexy Zone’s Sato Shori-kun, Kikuchi Fuma-kun and Matsushima Sou-kun performing “Kimi no Tame, Boku ga Iru”. Interesting to see Sou-kun stepping in for Kento-kun – I guess Kento-kun was busy with something else. Sou-kun seems to be growing well (I make it sound like he’s a plant . . . ).

Also on stage were a whole host of other juniors including Bakaleya4, Noon Boyz, Jinguji-kun, Iwahashi-kun, and what seemed to be Twenty Twenty – at least, a lot of the members from that informal (and I guess soon to be formalized now that Tokyo has won the 2020 Olympics!) group.

Shounen Club (ザ少年倶楽部) is a music variety show hosted by Japanese idol group Hey! Say! Jump that showcases the song-and-dance skills of the Johnny’s Entertainment agency’s most recently debuted groups – A.B.C-Z and Sexy Zone – as well as the agency’s trainees (known as juniors).

Juniors Matsumura Hokuto-kun and Jesse-kun kicked off this episode, starting the performance of Kis-My-Ft2’s “Everybody Go” . . .
