Let’s face it – everyone wants to release stuff at the start of Spring. There are all sorts of great seasonal themes to tap into and people are in more of a shopping mood after recovering from the end-of-year shopping and also thanks to the better weather. Which artists will rise to the occasion and give the season its soundtrack?

This list has selected single and album releases for the month, not all of them (i.e. releases from groups that I’m interested in tracking or at least recognize). I know I must have missed important ones, so please mention the artist and title in a comment and I’ll update the list.

More complete listings are available on merchant websites (I use CD Japan’s list).

First of all, wow there are a lot of albums coming out! I guess with practically every week occupied by a -48 family single except for that one Kis-My-Ft2 release, the really interesting competition will be on the album side.

In terms of numbers, I’m interested in seeing how the A.B.C-Z album will do since all their single releases have been DVD singles set at a higher price point and placed on the DVD rankings rather than the CD ones. It’s hard to even set an expectation.

I’m also unsure about the Nakayama Yuma release on April 2nd. We know he has the skills to be a great performer, but is being a solo act really the way to go for him?

Otherwise, amidst all the recognizable and respectable names, we’ll just have to see which songs really capture the seasonal imagination, if any. Personally, I already have all the Ghibli tunes, but I can’t think of better music to suit Spring. I don’t think the Joe Hisaishi album will sell too many copies, though, because like me, I imagine most people who’ve fallen in love with the music from the Miyazaki films already have them.
