Ohno Satoshi-san and Ninomiya Kazunari-kun host this episode of Himitsu no Arashi-chan (ひみつの嵐ちゃん), and they come onto the share house set playing with the cup-and-ball toys. When Nino-kun makes a slick move with his (as he often does – he seems quite experienced with these toys), Ohno-san looks at him like this:

He then whispers “Omedetou” (congratulations) to Nino-kun and makes an even funnier face.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 001

You’ll have to watch to see which in his repertoire of interesting faces he chooses, but it’s enough to point out that Nino-kun gets a kick out of it and the little green blurb at the bottom asks “what’s with this opening?”

The guest for this segment is Shibasaki Kou-san (柴咲コウ), and Ohno-san even greets her in a whimsically deep voice. He’s in a good (in other words, humorous) mood today, it seems.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 003

Shibasaki-san as in the movie “Ooku” with Ninomiya-kun in 2010, and also appeared on Himitsu no Arashi in 2010 in the VIP Room segment. They begin the episode by recalling these Arashi-Shibasaki encounters.

Nino-kun is already in full comfort mode, as you can see:

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 008

He asks Shibasaki-san how her impressions of Arashi have changed in the three years since she appeared in VIP Room, and assuming I understood it correctly, she answered that Nino-kun is the type who ignores/disregards communications. Nino-kun tries to squirm away from this one.

For a while after that, nothing struck me as interesting enough to translate or even mention. Shibasaki-san isn’t very animated.

I mean, it was stuff like what time she sleeps and gets up – I’m totally uninterested.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 020 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 021

Perhaps you were eager to find out that she plays with her cat on her days off?

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 022

Ohno-san tries to make the boring more interesting when the discussion finally hits rock bottom – discussing chores like washing – by bringing up the drying of underwear (at least, I think that’s what it was).

Then, and I know you were waiting for this, Ohno-san and Nino-kun had a shirt folding competition (still on the household chores topic). They actually took valuable airtime to discuss whether they were the type to fold clothes sitting down or standing up (I stand, in case you were curious).

I think they finally ran out of things to talk to Shibasaki-san when Nino-kun asked her whether she was an A-type:

After that, they started interviewing Ohno-san instead, asking him about his artistic lifestyle.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 036

It turned out that Ohno-san and Shibasaki-san had some sort of meeting-of-the-minds here.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 037 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 038 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 039

And that was all they had – it was time to turn to food.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 0412013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 043

It was self-rolled sushi, so there wasn’t any intense preparation.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 044 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 045

Time for the director to send in some help . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 047

. . . in the form of weird devices:

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 049

I have no idea what all those dots on it were for – all they did with it was touch their toes, which I can do without a $30-40 platform. Apparently using it for 90 seconds helps your flexibility, but I think the fact that Nino-kun was pushing on Ohno-san’s back was what really did it.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 052 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 053 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 054

But the best part of this whole share house segment came when Ohno-san had to try the “Leg Stretcher Pro” – a 33000 yen (approx. $360) medieval torture device.

Poor Ohno-san is really going the extra mile for this episode:

Thankfully, they ended on that high note.

The second segment was the Otona wa Dekite Touzen Show. Yashima Norito-san (八嶋智人) joined Ohno-san and Nino-kun on the Arashi team . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 072 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 073

. . . while the guests were Nishikawa-sensei, Tomori Arata-san (友利新), and JOY-san on the Joi (女医 – woman doctor) team. Of course, JOY-san isn’t a woman doctor – in his case, the name of the team is just a pun on his name. He’s been making the rounds a lot lately, hasn’t he? He was just on VS Arashi. Of course, Nishikawa-sensei is practically a Himitsu no Arashi regular.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 075

After a bit of pre-game banter in which they wondered whether JOY-san was really an adult (he pointed out he was 27, but said it in a distinctly immature way) and whether Nishikawa-sensei ever actually worked at a hospital anymore . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 076 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 077

. . . the first one-on-one battle was between the two sharp-tongued ones – Nino-kun and Nishikawa-sensei.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 078 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 079

The challenge was to cook teriyaki fish:

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 080 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 081

Ohno-san looks doubtful . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 082

. . . but perhaps Nino-kun can pull it off.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 0832013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 085

We know Nino-kun can fold tee-shirts better than Nishikawa-sensei. Do his cooking skills surpass hers, too?

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 0872013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 088

Afterward, the teams got a taste of the results, and we also got a review of how to do it properly.

Next, Tomori-san and Yashima-san tried to answer which prefectures four famous onsen (hot springs) are in. I liked how Tomori-san actually stuck her hand in the water from the hot spring as if that would help her remember where it was located.

The last one-on-one challenge was between JOY-san and Ohno-san . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 0952013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 096

. . . and they had to mix paint – making green, brown, and purple out of yellow, blue, red, and black. You would think that this would be a breeze for Ohno-san.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 097

But what about JOY-san? Will he make the rookie mistake and come up with black every time?

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 098 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 0992013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 104

Finally, they did the three-on-three match, and the task was simply to name the person in the pictures. Really a breeze to play along with, except I didn’t know some of the Japanese personages.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 1072013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 1082013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 109

Of course, everyone should be able to recognize the easy ones, like Sakamoto Ryoma . . .

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 110

. . . and Oda Nobunaga.

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 111

But I have to say, the Arashi guys were strangely silent during this game, letting Yashima-san do all the work. Is that some kind of handicap they’re giving to the guest team?

2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 112 2013.02.28 Himitsu no Arashi 113

Final verdict? Shibasaki-san was a singularly uninteresting guest for share house – she was way too soft-spoken and clearly didn’t think about what she could talk about beforehand. She was there to plug her stuff, and otherwise let the Arashi guys do all the work. Fortunately, Ohno-san looked like he was at his best, and when they brought in that equipment at the end of the segment, he single-handedly saved it from being a total loss.

The Otona Show was, in contrast, all good fun. Watching them cook in detail was good – usually when they do so on this show, it’s kept vague, but I prefer to see the steps if they’re going to spend time on it. I don’t think it was possible to play along with the onsen question unless you’re intimately familiar with Japanese geography and love hot springs. The color mix one was doable, though, as was the final round.

So, I say skip the first sixteen minutes and pick it up once the exercise equipment is brought in.

Obviously, the Most Omoshiroi (Interesting) Arashi in this episode was Ohno-san, for the reasons already described above.
