In this episode of Arashi ni Shiyagare (嵐にしやがれ), the Arashi members seem to know that a prominent actor is the guest, and it’s someone who hasn’t been on before, but their guesses are wildly off the mark. The first guess from Sakurai-san was Tom Cruise, for heaven’s sake.

The actual guest was the ever-popular Mukai Osamu-san:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0052013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 006

Since he’s the same age as Sakurai-san, this should be a bit more fun than when the guests are a generation older than the hosts . . . at least I hope so.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0072013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 008

At first, I think Sakurai-san claims that Mukai-san has no reason for coming (that is, nothing to promote), but then Matsumoto-kun mentions that Mukai-san has a movie opening in a few days. That gets MatsuJun the title of the most honest/serious one:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 009

Sakurai-san continues to dwell a bit on the fact that Mukai-san is of the same generation (why this is such a surprise/major point is beyond me) . . .

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0102013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 011

. . . then brings up the fact that Mukai-san likes to do rock climbing:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 012

Sure enough, the gifts Mukai-san brought for the Arashi members were climbing-related.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 013

Mukai-san was asked to distribute each color to the member that fit it best in his estimation.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0142013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 015

After that, they went into the rumor segment.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 016

I think the first one says that he gets angry at holidays. I’ll need a kind translator to help me to understand why, though.

He in turn asks the Arashis what days they get obsessed about/fixated on, and birthdays were the first answer from Sakurai-san. His was only a week before this episode aired (January 25th) and was probably even closer to when it was recorded, so I guess it was on his mind.

The topic then turns to a recent Shounen Club theme – 告白 (kokuhaku – confession/profession of love). Like in Shounen Club, I think this is Valentine’s Day stuff.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 027

Mainly, they talk about how hard it is to confess liking someone and getting into a relationship.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 028

Aiba-kun has some thoughts on this matter:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 029

The next rumor seems to say that Mukai-san can’t live without dried plums (梅干し – umeboshi) – and he confirms it immediately.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 030

Mukai-san then turns the question on the others – what things they must have to keep going (I think it was especially on distant location shoots).

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0312013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0322013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0332013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 034

The third rumor was that he hasn’t said “tadaima” (I’m back) for several years – the mark of a lonely existence.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0352013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0362013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 037

The others think it’s not possible to say it without someone at home to respond with the traditional “okaeri” (welcome home), but Matsumoto-kun claims that he says “tadaima” anyway, just for his own sake. Somehow, that seems even worse. He even demonstrates:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0382013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 039

And goes on with “oyasumi” (good night).

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 040

In the corner where they usually put the topic, they next had “Mukai Osamu’s sexy private life”, but he was talking about cooking (which he’s good at), so I have no idea where they got the “セクシー” (sexy) from. Well, except for the fact that its Mukai Osamu doing the cooking, which would be considered sexy in certain quarters, I guess.

Finally, it’s time to move on to the more active phase of the show. The comedy duo Heisei Nobushi Kobushi is brought in to assist.

The first order of business was Mukai-san’s visit to Angkor Wat in Cambodia:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0472013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0492013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0502013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 051

They all stood as if they were walking through the monument as they watched the VTR:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0522013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0542013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0552013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 056

It was a pretty long VTR about his trip to Cambodia, lasting about eight minutes. He added some commentary, but Heisei Nobushi Kobushi had to do the bulk of the talking.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0572013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0582013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0592013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 060

After a balloon ride over the site . . .

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0642013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0652013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 066

. . . there was also a bit of Cambodian nightlife featured.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0672013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0682013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 069

It was a nice video, but we really need to get down to business. And by business, I mean physical exertion.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 071

Everyone gets suited up . . .

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 072

. . . and they bring in a special guest – pro trainer Koba Katsumi-san (木場克己).

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0732013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0742013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 075

And he quickly points them in new directions . . .

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0762013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 077

. . . though it’s up to them to keep things straight.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0782013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 079

They deliberately did exercises that you can try at home with simple equipment like a chair and pillows.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0802013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0812013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0822013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 083

But even though this one was very straightforward, Nino-kun had some qualms. Well, one qualm – that the position would lead him to release a fart, which would be entirely un-idol-like. At one point it almost happened, and he shouted “abunai!” (危ない!) to warn them.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 085

After the warm-ups, they did something that you don’t have the equipment for in your house (unless you’re really, really into rock climbing):

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0872013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0882013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0892013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0902013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 091

Will the Arashi members be able to get from the start grip to the goal? Shouldn’t all that Cliff Climb practice in VS Arashi help with this?

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 093

I won’t tell you how it ended up, but I will say that the members who went up basically stayed in keeping with their established personalities. That is, MatsuJun was cool and stylish, Aiba-kun was precarious . . .

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0952013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0962013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0972013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 0982013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 099

. . . and Sakurai-san looked completely unsuited to it.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1002013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1012013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1022013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 103

After those three went, Mukai-san showed how he does it:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1042013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1052013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 106

To wrap things up, there was the usual food. In this case, it was harami (ハラミ – skirt steak).

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1092013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1102013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 112

There was something about Mukai-san eating 8 cups of rice during his school days.

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1132013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1142013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 1152013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 116

I think this episode had a little of everything. I always like to see the Arashi members being active instead of spending the time sitting around talking, so I consider this a very good if not great episode. The Cambodia VTR was a slow part to the show, but it was at least scenic. I’m certainly glad they didn’t interrupt the fun by inserting an “Encounter the Unknown” segment. If they get rid of those segments altogether, I won’t complain.

The Most Omoshiroi Arashi has to go to one of the three members who tried dealt with that wall, and I think I’ll give it to Aiba-kun, since he had the right balance between making it interesting and not utterly embarrassing himself. He also had that moment during the talk segment.

The preview for the next episode looked good:

2013.02.02 Arashi ni Shiyagare 118

Yay! More Arashi training! Let’s see if they’re keeping in good form, now that most of them have passed the big 30.
