Ratings this season continue to be divided in character. On the one hand, some shows clearly have a dedicated audience. Meanwhile, millions of viewers apparently continue to shift in and out of the more volatile dramas. For now, I’m reviewing MONSTERS, Piece, and Ooku, with an eye on Priceless.

You can get information on all of this season’s dramas at the most recent of the bi-weekly TokyoHive articles here. That’s my main source for the ratings below, and with all the information they have available, you can easily make a much more probing analysis than you’ll find here.

Doctor X just keeps chugging along, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, Resident doesn’t seem to benefit from the taste for medical dramas – its ratings keep bouncing around, and just dropped precipitously to a worrisome low.

Speaking of drops, Priceless took a serious hit, though it’s average still keeps it in the #2 spot. I haven’t seen the first episode of this one yet (the only drama in the above list I haven’t been able to get to, due to its late start), so I’ll refrain from speculating for now.

No surprises with Aibou 11, Tokyo Airport, Perfect Blue, or Koukou Nyushi.

I am surprised by Akumu-chan. Kitagawa Keiko-san seems to be doing better work there than I expected from the first episode.

Ooku experienced a nice recovery. That’s good – I hate to pick up a show and then see the Japanese viewing public drop it. It doesn’t bode well.

Both of the late night dramas picked up about a percentage point. They don’t air on the same night, so I wonder what that’s about. Coincidence? Anyway, good to see Piece back in the 2% range.
