Due to 24-hr TV, Sprout and Ghost Mama Sousasen didn’t air episodes this week, so the only drama I’m tracking that might have been affected was Summer Rescue. Otherwise, the drama ratings shouldn’t be too skewed by extrinsic effects.

A complete account of the weekend shows, including variety shows, can be found at the usual bi-weekly TokyoHive rundown. The most recent of those is here. I’m only keeping track of my slate of dramas (the ones I’ve considered doing reviews for) for this season.

GTO continued to gain strength, now amazingly tying its first episode ratings. Considering how we left off at the end of episode 8, I’d be surprised if there was a dip in ratings on episode 9.

Iryu Sosa 2 is firmly in the number two spot, but despite its great cast, I still can’t figure out how to review it.

Can Kuro no Onna Kyoushi surpass Ghost Mama Sousasen? There aren’t too many episodes left, but if we threw out the first episodes, which are reflective of the buzz ahead of the series rather than the quality of the episodes, it’d be pretty close.

The drop in Summer Rescue might have been due to viewer fatigue, since it aired right after the end of the 24-hr TV special.

Beginners! continues steady, right around its average. I think the episodes have got better though, so hopefully we’ll see more viewers in the episodes ahead.

Boys on the Run might be able to take on Naniwa Shounen Tanteidan, which is impressive since it’s in a later time slot. I’m a bit behind on reviewing Naniwa Shounen Tanteidan, so I’ll be the first to admit that it’s done a bad job of encouraging viewer enthusiasm.

That’s opposite to my attitude towards Sprout and GTO, which I review as soon as I get the subtitles. I didn’t think Sprout would be able to hold my interest, but here we are, and I’ll have to wait another week to find out what happens next.
