These are the Notable (i.e. potentially popular) Single and Album Releases for the next month. My apologies if your favorite artist is not included – it’s probably because I have never heard of them, or I expect their sales to be far below 100,000. Recently, the livejournal page for Johnny’s new releases (johnnys_shop) stopped updating, so I thought people might be interested in this kind of summary.

Arashi – Your Eyes

Of course, I’m looking forward to the Arashi and HSJ releases, and so far there doesn’t seem to be any suspense that they will secure the top rankings for their respective weeks (HSJ Second Album will be the top album for the week of June 6th while “Your Eyes” will be the top single). However, I noticed that for the first four weeks for May, either AKB48 or one of their clones have a release scheduled for every single week. Is it impossible that they’ll suddenly come up with something for June 6th? No. But since only AKB can compete with Arashi, and their single will be coming out only two weeks before “Your Eyes,” I don’t think there’s a serious chance of competition.

On the other hand, we notice that NYC avoided competing with AKB48 by releasing on Friday May 25th instead of Wednesday. There might be another reason for it, but this way, NYC at least has a chance to top the rankings for the day, though they still have no chance to take the week. They could have had a chance in the week of May 30th, since the competition there looks reasonably weak.

May 16th is a pretty heavy day. If we get all those acts onto Music Station in the same week, that’ll really be something to watch. No Johnny’s, of course, but since that week is pretty much surrounded by Arashi releases, I think we’ll survive.
